Every game trains these

All skills →

Forget the genre for a sec. Pick up any game, from Tetris to a golf sim nobody remembers, and three things get trained whether you meant to or not.

Bouncing back

Every game kills you, beats you or sends you back to the start. Hitting continue instead of the off switch is the rep, and you have done thousands.

Deep focus

The room goes quiet and an hour vanishes. That is your attention locking onto one thing, which is rarer than it sounds and worth plenty at work and across a dinner table.

Pattern recognition

Every game is a set of rules nobody told you. You work them out by watching what happens, the same trick behind reading a room, a boss or a date.
